EUROWATCH OC buys, sells and trades the Omega Speedmaster at our showroom on Lido Peninsula in Newport Beach. That covers the current Moonwatch Professional, the Speedmaster '57 and Dark Side of the Moon, plus older calibre 1861 and 861 Moonwatches collectors still look for. Every Speedmaster is authenticated in-house before it goes on display, and you can try it on and take it home the same day. Call 949-994-0114 or browse our Speedmaster inventory.
The Omega Speedmaster: a short history
Omega launched the Speedmaster in 1957 as a racing chronograph, reference CK2915, with the tachymeter scale moved onto the bezel. NASA put it through flight qualification testing in 1965, and it passed where the competitors failed. On July 21, 1969, Buzz Aldrin wore one on the lunar surface during Apollo 11, and the watch has been called the Moonwatch ever since.
The design has barely moved in six decades: an asymmetric case, a black dial with three registers and a hand-wound chronograph movement. The big changes have been under the dial, from calibre 321 to 861 in 1968, to 1861, and since 2021 to the Master Chronometer calibre 3861.

Buy an Omega Speedmaster in Newport Beach
Hesalite or sapphire is the first decision most buyers make, and it is much easier to decide with both watches on your wrist. Our showroom at 3388 Via Lido Ave keeps Speedmasters in stock, and every one has been through our inspection: movement timed, chronograph function checked, dial, hands and bezel examined under magnification, and serials verified. Shipping is free and fully insured by FedEx Express, with a 7-day return window. If you want a specific reference we don't have, our sourcing team will find it.
Sell your Omega Speedmaster
We buy Speedmasters outright, with or without box and papers. Bring the watch in or send photos and we authenticate it, quote a number based on what Speedmasters are actually trading for, and pay the same day if you accept. Vintage references with original dials and unpolished cases get the strongest offers. See our sell and trade page for how it works.
Trade your Speedmaster toward a Rolex
A Speedmaster is often a first serious watch, and trading it in is the fastest way up. The most common move we see is a Moonwatch toward a Rolex Daytona, another chronograph with a racing history. We value your Speedmaster fairly, apply it to the next watch, and you settle the difference in one visit.
Does the Speedmaster hold its value?
A standard Moonwatch usually trades below its retail price on the secondary market, because Omega makes enough of them to meet demand. That is a good thing if you are buying to wear: you get the same watch for less. The exceptions are limited editions with real collector pull, the Snoopy editions above all, and vintage calibre 321 and 861 references in original condition. If you are choosing between Omega's two main lines, our Seamaster page covers the other side.
Frequently asked questions
Should I buy the hesalite or sapphire Moonwatch?
Buy hesalite if you want the watch closest to what NASA flew. It has the warm distortion collectors love and scratches can be polished out. Buy sapphire if you want a scratch-resistant crystal and a display caseback to see the calibre 3861. Both are 42mm and wear the same.
Is the Omega Speedmaster a good investment?
Most standard Moonwatches trade below retail, so it is a watch to wear rather than a watch to flip. Limited editions such as the Snoopy references and vintage calibre 321 and 861 models are the exceptions. This is not financial advice.
What is the difference between calibre 1861 and 3861?
Both are hand-wound chronographs. The 3861, introduced in 2021, adds Omega's Co-Axial escapement and Master Chronometer certification, which means better accuracy and resistance to magnetism. The 1861 is simpler and some collectors prefer it for that reason.
How much is my Omega Speedmaster worth?
It depends on the reference, movement, condition, whether the case has been polished and whether you have box and papers. Call EUROWATCH OC at 949-994-0114 or bring the watch to our Newport Beach showroom for a same-day offer.
Can I trade my Speedmaster toward a Rolex?
Yes. We value your Speedmaster and apply it to any watch in stock, including Rolex. A Moonwatch toward a Daytona is one of the most common trades we handle.
Do you have the Speedmaster in stock in Newport Beach?
We usually carry current Moonwatches and several older references at 3388 Via Lido Ave. Stock changes daily, so call 949-994-0114 to confirm a specific model before you visit.
Speedmaster or Seamaster: which is better for daily wear?
The Seamaster, if you swim or want an automatic. The Speedmaster is hand-wound and less water resistant, but it is the more historic watch and the one most collectors buy first.
